Complete the scholarship application at StepUpForStudents.org. Step Up guides you through eligibility and paperwork. Your campus registration office can help you get it right.
Step 2
Enroll at your campus
You don't have to wait for an award to start. Schedule an enrollment appointment, bring your documents, and the school will work with you on the scholarship in parallel.
Step 3
Keep your scholarship active
Once awarded, approve school invoices, complete verification by each deadline, and keep your contact information current so funding continues without interruption.

FES

Family Empowerment Scholarship

Florida's main K-12 scholarship for families choosing an eligible private school. Funds are applied toward tuition and fees at the school.

Best for: Most families choosing a private school

FTC

Florida Tax Credit Scholarship

Funded through corporate tax credits and awarded by the same application. Works the same way for families once awarded.

Best for: Families with limited financial resources

FES-UA

Family Empowerment Scholarship for Unique Abilities

For students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a qualifying diagnosis. Awards are larger and can cover a wider range of educational expenses.

Once You're Awarded

Keeping Your Scholarship Active

Timely completion of scholarship requirements prevents delays or interruptions in funding and in your student's access to the learning platform.

Maintain active enrollment at your campus and meet the in-person attendance requirement in the Step Up handbook
Approve school invoices within 30 calendar days of receiving them
Keep contact and scholarship account information current
Complete scholarship verification by each deadline your campus publishes
Complete required scholarship testing for eligible students in grades 6–10
Check your email and scholarship portal regularly for notices and required actions

Scholarship FAQ

Do I need a scholarship before I can enroll?: No. Each campus enrolls students throughout the school year. Start the enrollment conversation now and apply for the scholarship at the same time. The registration office helps with both.
Is my family eligible?: Under Florida law, K-12 students who live in Florida can apply for the Family Empowerment or Florida Tax Credit scholarship, with priority given to lower-income households. Step Up For Students makes the final determination.
How much does the scholarship cover?: Award amounts are set by the state and vary by county and grade level. Each campus publishes its own tuition and fee schedule. Scholarship funds are applied first; families are responsible for any balance, and the school can discuss payment options.
What happens if I miss a verification deadline?: Missing a deadline can delay or interrupt funding and access to the learning platform. Your campus posts the dates on its calendar and reminds families ahead of time.
